Take a remarkable Karst Trip
Everything we do at our farm is shaped by the geology below our feet. In our case, that's 350 million year old layers of dolomite and chert that form layers of rock called Karst. These rock layers are porous to the rain that falls and over time, the water forms amazing features that you can see on a brief tour. There's a small sinkhole in our front yard. The Karst Window that leads to a large cave system is just below the house. The natural arch is an ancient sinkhole with the bottom missing.

The cave system is part of a giant drainage area stretching back to the cities of Springfield and Republic. Sinkholes, joints, faults and well openings all feed our 3.5 million gallon-per-day spring. Fresh water pours out of the rock face into the 4 acre lake and then down the waterfall into the spring-fed Sac River which flows north to provide drinking water for hundreds of thousands of local citizens
